I am a World Folk musician with a large repertoire of songs from a variety of musical traditions. I sing and play the guitar.
I grew up hearing my mother sing songs from her homeland in Eastern Europe. My musical career began over 40 years ago as a solo performer in Montreal. Shortly after, I moved to Victoria and co-created the musical ensemble Tzimmes, which still exists in Vancouver.
Following that, I was a member of Kefi, a Victoria based Greek Band, for 8 years. We performed in restaurants, at parties and weddings on Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia. We also performed at the Folk Life Festival in Seattle. When we performed in restaurants. I particularly enjoyed the after-party when staff and late night patrons were dancing on the tables.
When Kefi disbanded I was welcomed into the trio, Fetacompli. The main focus of this band was playing music for Belly Dancers. Currently, in addition to playing with my partner, Amber, as the duo, Kouskous, I have gone back to my roots as a solo performer. I can be seen regularly at the Folk Music Society’s Sunday gatherings at Norway House. I have also turned my attention to bringing music to seniors.
I create a program which showcases sing-a-longs, historical songs and parodies. As I am fluently bi-lingual, I often include tunes from around the French speaking world. I enjoy playing traditional folk songs in a number of languages including English, French, Spanish, Ladino and Greek. In addition, my programs often feature sea shanties and humorous parodies of popular songs. I am sure to include songs from the 1950s through the 1970s. Beatles songs are usually a hit.
